Welcome back, Snowy Wings fans!
Today we’re bringing you an exclusive interview from Vicki L. Weavil, author of THE MIRROR OF IMMORTALITY series – CROWN OF ICE: Book One, and SCEPTER OF FIRE: Book Two. MAY 2017.
1.) Did you make a New Year’s Resolution?
I never make New Year’s Resolutions, but I did decide to release at least four books in 2017, so I will be busy accomplishing that goal!
2.) What would one of your character’s resolutions be?
My protagonist in SCEPTER OF FIRE – the second book in the MIRROR OF IMMORTALITY series – is Varna Lund, younger sister of Gerda from CROWN OF ICE. Varna’s resolution would be to become the most accomplished healer in her village – or her entire country, for that matter. Her goal for any year is to live a life that matters. Her dream is to be valued for the aid she can provide to others, rather than ignored and ridiculed because of her plain appearance.
3.) If you could assign any resolution to that character that you think would help them, what would it be?
I would tell Varna that she should conquer her feelings of inadequacy over being the “ugly duckling” in her family, and accept the truth that people can love her just as she is.
4.) How did you celebrate New Year’s?
My family had just returned from a holiday visit with relatives on New Year’s Eve, so we opted for a quiet night at home – with champagne and our favorite snacks! We also watched a good portion of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, which is something we marathon watch every year.
5.) Would your character be happy having a big party to celebrate or would they prefer a small gathering of close friends?
Varna would definitely prefer a small gathering of close friends and family. She isn’t one for big parties, although she did enjoy the ball she attended with a handsome, but dangerous, man.
6.) January tends to be a cold month, are you a fan of cold or warm weather?
I actually like both. Honestly, I’ve lived in some very cold parts of the United States as well as more temperate regions, and I find both exhilarating in different ways. I do enjoy having a change of seasons, so I don’t think I would want to permanently live where the weather was always the same.
7.) When it’s colder out, where is your favorite place to write?
I like to work in my snug little office, with a strong cup of coffee close at hand. From my window, I can look out over our back yard, and catch sight of deer, foxes, or other wild creatures wandering into the yard from the woods behind our house.
8.) January is a time of new beginnings…are you beginning anything?
One of my new ventures in 2017 is publishing two (possibly three) books through Snowy Wings Publishing, so that is definitely something new for me. I am also releasing two adult scifi books in 2017, via my own imprint, White Tulip Press. In terms of new creative efforts, I will also be completing a new YA Fantasy early in 2017. It’s called THE DIAMOND THIMBLE, and features a traveling theatre troupe, a young costume designer, a race of fae-like creatures called the Fleck, and an enchanted thimble and needles!
9.) What is one thing you are looking forward to in January?
I am very excited to see the preliminary sketches for the covers for THE MIRROR OF IMMORTALITY series, which are being designed by the fabulous Deranged Doctor Design company.
10.) What is your wish for the SWP readers this January?
My wish for our SWP fans throughout the year is that they have the good fortune to discover new books – and authors – they can love long after 2017 is over!
Thanks so much to Vicki for joining us this month to chat about her New Years plans, the cold weather, and her wish for our readers. We can’t wait to have you back!
Until then,
Thanks for joining us at SWP, where we’re taking the book world by storm!
